The number of tourists in Egypt descends because of security fears

Egypt has received 0.9 million visitors in January, 10.2 percent more than the 800,000 visitors who came last year, but less than 400,000 in January 2011, mainly due to a security vacuum after the revolution which has deterred tourists from the Central Agency for Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
The largest proportion of tourists came from Western Europe, then followed by Eastern Europeans and tourists from the Middle East, spending a total of 13.8 million nights in the country.
Tourists from Arab countries increased by 14.1 percent to nearly 191,000 tourists in January 2013, but still much less than the rate pre-revolutionary were approximately 330,000 visitors from Arab countries January 2010.
Arab tourists spent 4.1 million nights in Egypt in January of this year, 52.1 percent more than in January of the previous year.

Arab tourists have gone from an average of 12.4 million nights in January this year, compared to 11.9 million overnights last year and 11.5 million the year before.
The tourism sector in Egypt has received several blows since the beginning of this year, the most serious accident was probably ballooning in Luxor leaving 19 dead among tourists.
Tourism experts have estimated that the occupancy rate of the hotels had reached only about 10 percent in hotels in Cairo, hotels in Red Sea and Luxor hotels.
